ProQual – Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety
About Course
The Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice qualification is aimed at candidates who are responsible for developing and applying health and safety procedures day-to-day in their organisation. They may be a staff member, supervisor or manager looking to improve their knowledge and skills.
The awarding body for this qualification is ProQual Awarding Body and the regulatory body is the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual). This qualification has been accredited onto the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF).

There are 10 mandatory units which you must complete, which cover a broad range of topics ranging from, promoting positive safety culture, to developing emergency procedures.
- Candidates must complete all the 8 Mandatory units to complete the qualification
- D/616/9536 - Promote a positive health and safety culture
- F/616/9531 - Develop and implement the health and safety policy
- J/616/9532 - Develop and implement effective communication systems for health and safety information
- R/616/9534 - Develop and maintain individual and organisational competence in health and safety matters
- Y/616/9535 - Identify, assess and control health and safety risks
- H/616/9537 - Develop and implement proactive monitoring systems for health and safety
- K/616/9538 - Develop and implement reactive monitoring systems for health and safety
- M/616/9539 - Develop and implement health and safety emergency response systems and procedures
- H/616/9540 - Develop and implement health and safety review systems
- K/616/9541 - Maintain knowledge of improvements to influence health and safety practice
Each candidate is required to produce and submit portfolio of evidence, demonstrating that you have achieved all the learning outcomes and assessment criteria for each unit.
- Once you gather evidence for each of the unit, your assessor will make sure that you meet all the requirements.
- Once the assessor is satisfied, your work will be signed off and approved.
- We will not submit any work that we believe might not lead to a pass.
- You will receive a feedback for improvement from our assessor if the unit is not satisfactory.
All assessments and evidence are submitted will be a combination of:
- Work-based assessment - set tasks to be completed and supported by work-based evidence
- Reflective tasks - Reflections to show how you have developed from experiences at work and how your competence has improved
- Knowledge competence check - a series of questions to validate your knowledge
Evidence can include:
- observation report by assessor
- assignments/projects/reports
- professional discussion
- witness testimony
- candidate product worksheets
- record of oral and written questioning
- Recognition of Prior Learning
There are NO EXAMS for this course, you are assessed solely on your submitted work-based evidence and documents. Remember you don't fail this course as there are no exams.
Each learner will be provided with a dedicated tutor/assessor who will be guiding and assessing your evidences submitted.
The Learning Assistant site, where completed assignments and supporting documentation will be uploaded, will be used to offer students with the workbooks, guidance materials, and templates necessary to complete this NVQ course.
Finally once your work has been checked and passed by your assessor, you’ll receive a certificate as proof you have passed the NVQ
The NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety meeting the requirement:-
- Graduate membership of IOSH (GradIOSH)
- Membership of the IIRSM (MIIRSM) - minimum 3 years professional experience
